What is the value of Go Green Plus?
The real value of Go Green Plus is in the level of detail and benchmarking capabilities
it provides. Go Green Plus delivers scoring reports on how a building is performing,
as well as providing very specific questions that enable the building manager to look at the
components needed to achieve the benchmarks. As a result, Go Green Plus empowers
the people who are actually managing the building to participate in the process, identify
actions for improvement and monitor the progress. The program measures each building's
environmental factors against the best industry operation and management practices.
In addition, Go Green Plus is an important educational tool, designed to encourage
sustainable best practices throughout the commercial real estate industry.
Why should I obtain Go Green Plus Certification?
The independent assessment and verification process allows you to compare your building
with others, as well as obtain a benchmark for your building's performance.
Go Green Plus, in providing recommendations for improvements, is an excellent
vehicle to obtain affordable, expert advice that is pertinent to your specific building.
Successful buildings will also be entitled to display their Go Green Plus certification,
a noticeable way to publicize the building’s superior performance.
What criteria does Go Green Plus focus on?
- Energy (energy consumption, features, management, transportation)
- Water (water efficiency)
- Resources (waste reduction and recycling; site)
- Emissions, Effluents and Other Impacts (air emissions; ozone depletion; water effluents, hazardous materials, hazardous products, health & safety and WHMIS)
- Indoor Environment (indoor air, lighting, noise); and
- Environmental Management (EMS documentation, purchasing policy, emergency response, tenant awareness)
What reports will be generated as part of the Go Green Plus Program?
For benchmarking purposes, a clear, comprehensive report is provided that identifies strengths
and weaknesses, and measures the performance of each building. It will also identify areas
for potential savings in resource consumption, from both capital improvements and enhanced
building management processes. The program is designed to both monitor the ongoing performance
and improvements of a building's operations and provide a tool to address tenant expectations
for healthier workplaces, in a recognized and cost-effective way.
How long does it take to complete the online application form for Go Green Plus?
The questionnaire for each stage can be completed in two to three hours.
There are approximately hundred fifty questions, with "pop-up" explanations
available for most. Most questions require only a simple 'yes' or 'no' answer,
other than those requesting specific data from energy and water bills.
How does the rating process work?
Scores give the percentage of possible points that have been awarded,
based on the information and responses provided in the online questionnaire,
for meeting and implementing best energy and environmental practices and standards.
Scoring is broken down to reflect data on the various components or criteria (including energy,
water, resources (site and waste), emissions, effluents, hazardous materials, WHIMS,
indoor environment and environmental management). An overall building score is also provided.
Buildings that achieve a rating of 70% or greater will be granted Go Green
Plus certification, pending on-site verification, and approval from the local BOMA Board.
How does the application/certification process work?
The BOMA Go Green certification process is straightforward. More detail is available on the synopsis
